The proof that the porn industry has no idea about what makes great art direction is shown by the fact that Morphine did not receive the AVN award for Best Art Direction, it instead was given to another boring interactive DVD w/ a blonde from the valley. The fact that Morphine was made gives hope that the industry is changing.

Morphine proves first and foremost that vivid alt. is changing porn for the better. The film has a plot line, but does not attempt to be a “legit” movie; instead it embraces its seedy and dark roots. Low lighting, red lipstick, leopard print, Jack Daniels, a velvet Elvis painting and grainy film effects ask the question; who does not want to watch some southern gothic porn every now and then?

Morphine tells the story of a young woman (Hollander) trying to leave her life as a pill popper and a prostitute at the aptly named “sugar shack”, with a wonderful cliché thrown in, she wants to be a Nashville song writer! Thank God, Kane knew enough to not make this a singing role for any of the stars! But, it has a killer soundtrack that furthers the psychobilly feel of this film.

A genre bending cast of the “cool kids” of porn help drive this flick into a category all of its own! At a porn convention, this is the gang that would be hiding in the bathroom, chain smoking and playing dice.

This film does not lose itself in an attempt to make high art, and keeps the sex hot and heavy. It has six full sex scenes (2 of which are the hottest lesbian scenes I have ever seen!) that cover all of your sex watching needs.

Many of the sex scenes are hard and rough (one involves Kane and 3 men playing with a noose!) but we also get a mid-film release from that, a playful and pretty scene involving Kane & Flores helps to keep this film light. Ashley Blue shines as a drunken prostitute who is “forced” to take a MASSIVE Jerry in her mouth, and as always graces us with some ATM. Jada Fire shows us why she is a big name in the industry now, and Audrey and Otto do what they do best.. have rough sex that no one has to feel guilty enjoying.. As they both love it more than any viewer could!

I chose to put up this film as the first review because I truly believe it is a great porn that stands up to a lot of the crap that has been released in recent years under the attempt at rock and roll porn. This film raises the bar for the art direction in XXX flicks. Crappy “punk porn” directors, pay attention!!! Kane is showing the boys of porn how it is done!
